Bloomington, Ill. – September 16, 2026 – The Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, commonly referred to as the Farm Bill, is advancing to the U.S. Senate floor following a 12 – 11 vote by the Senate Agriculture Committee, marking another step toward completing the next farm bill.
“This is another important step in the farm bill process, but there is still work to be done,” said Bryan Severs, ISG Chairman. “As the legislation moves to the Senate floor, we will continue working with our policymakers to make sure the priorities and needs of Illinois soybean farmers are represented, including crop insurance and risk management, biofuels, conservation and trade.”
The farm bill is intended to be renewed every five years, but the 2018 Farm Bill has remained in place through a series of extensions since 2023. The farm bill remains a critical piece of federal agricultural legislation, providing the framework for programs that support farmers, rural communities, food and nutrition assistance, conservation and trade.
