Illinois Soybean Growers Chairman Bryan Severs issued the following statement in response to the administration’s actions on 2025 Small Refinery Exemption (SRE) petitions. The petitions exempt approximately 1.8 billion Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) from Renewable Fuel Standard compliance for small refiners, while proposing to reallocate 100% of those RINs to larger refiners during the current 2026-2027 compliance period.
“Soybean farmers greatly appreciate President Trump, EPA Administrator Zeldin and Illinois Reps. Mike Bost (R-12), Mary Miller (R-15) and Darin LaHood (R-16) for recognizing the potential impact of these exemptions and working diligently to help ensure soybean farmers and producers of homegrown biofuels are protected from unintended economic harm resulting from the recent SRE announcement.
