Rodney Weinzierl
Executive Director, Illinois Corn
Rodney Weinzierl has served as Executive Director of IL Corn since 1993, where he oversees market development, education, and research programs for the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, as well as membership, legislative, and public relations for the Illinois Corn Growers Association. He began his career with IL Corn in 1988 as Market Development Director and previously worked with the Cooperative Extension Service as the Tazewell County Ag Adviser. Rodney holds a degree in Agricultural Sciences and Production from Illinois State University. He and his wife, Kathy, reside in Stanford, Illinois, and have three adult daughters.

John Lumpe
CEO, Illinois Soybean Association
John Lumpe is the CEO of the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA). Having previously served as Senior Vice President of FLM Harvest, and Executive Director of the Ohio Soybean Association, Ohio Soybean Council, and the Ohio Soybean Council Foundation, John brings more than 30 years of experience in association management, public relations, strategic planning, communications and market development. In his role as CEO, John is responsible for leading the state’s soybean checkoff and membership programs and upholding ISA’s commitment to driving profitability and global competitive positioning of Illinois soy. As leader of the number one soybean-producing state in the nation, John’s efforts are in the service of expanding opportunities for Illinois’ soybean farmers through promotion, education, outreach, and advocating for farm policies that ensure a successful, sustainable future for Illinois agriculture. John and his wife Lisa reside in Bloomington, Ill., and have two sons, Jack and Henry.

Bailey Arnold
Director, Clean Air Initiatives, American Lung Association
Bailey Arnold is an environmental science and sustainability professional with the American Lung Association©. Bailey is focused on the adoption of alternative fuels and technologies through the ALA’s award-winning Clean Air Choice© program. As B20 Club Lead for the Illinois Soybean Association checkoff program, he is responsible for all B20 Club support and outreach activities.
11:00 AM: Expanding Global Markets

Shelby Watson
Director, The Americas & Allied Industry Programs, USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC)
Shelby Watson joined the USAPEEC team in February 2018. Over the course of her time at USAPEEC, she has worked to increase partnerships with our Corn and Soybean members by setting a record for non-government funding of over 6 million dollars from just 4.8 million dollars in 2018. Shelby has also worked to increase commodity membership by recruiting and welcoming six new state checkoff boards to USAPEEC. Commodity contributions fund over 100 activities in more than 35 countries worldwide. In 2025, Shelby became the Director of Marketing for the Americas region including Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean while still maintaining her role with Allied Industries.

Krista Swanson
Lead Economist, National Corn Growers Association
Krista Swanson is the Lead Economist at the National Corn Growers Association, providing economic analysis to support market and policy decisions. Before NCGA, Krista worked as a research analyst at the University of Illinois, publishing frequently on farm economics and policy impacts via farmdoc. Her background also includes farm loan portfolio analysis and agricultural accounting. She holds an M.S. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Illinois and farms with her husband and four children in Illinois.

Lyndsey Erb
Director, Industry Affairs, U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC)
As Director of Industry Affairs at the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), Lyndsey Erb leads strategic initiatives to strengthen industry engagement, enhance market access, and promote the global utilization of U.S. Soy. She works closely with stakeholders across the soy value chain—including producers, exporters, and international buyers—to align U.S. Soy with the evolving needs of global markets. Lyndsey also plays a key role in advancing USSEC's mission by supporting market access, facilitating technical collaboration, and driving industry-wide efforts to address trade barriers and expand international opportunities for U.S. Soy. Prior to joining USSEC, Lyndsey served in several leadership roles at the U.S. Grains Council from 2011 to 2023, most recently as Director of Industry Relations. In that capacity, she led membership engagement and stakeholder development efforts to support U.S. grain exports. Lyndsey holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance & Administration with a minor in Marketing and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Southwest Minnesota State University.

Brady Holst
Vice Chairman, Illinois Soybean Association
Brady Holst is the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) Vice Chairman, an At-Large Director, and a member of the Personnel Committee. Holst farms corn, soybeans, and wheat around Augusta, Illinois. Prior to working on the farm full time, he was a design engineer at an ag-technology company after graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
1:00 PM: Economic Impact Analysis

Dr. Gary Schnitkey
Professor; Soybean Industry Chair in Agricultural Strategy, University of Illinois
Dr. Gary Schnitkey is the Soybean Industry Chair in Agricultural Strategy within the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics, University of Illinois. His activities focus on farm and risk management on Corn Belt grain farms. He analyzes factors causing differences in profitability across farms, and develops ways of mitigating risk on farms. He writes the Weekly Farm Economics article that appears each Tuesday on the farmdocDaily website. Dr. Schnitkey grew up on a grain and hog farm in northwest Ohio. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University and a Masters and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. From 1987 through 1998, he was on faculty at The Ohio State University where he held a dairy farm management position. Since 1998, he has been employed at the University of Illinois.

Ellen Zimmerman
Director of Industry Relations, U.S. Grains Council
Ellen Zimmerman leads membership development and stakeholder engagement for the U.S. Grains Council, promoting global use of U.S. corn, barley, sorghum, ethanol and DDGS. Her work spans member services, international industry relations, and trade education. Ellen previously held roles with the American Seed Trade Association and Ohio Corn & Wheat, where she focused on communications and grower engagement. She holds a degree in Agricultural Communication from The Ohio State University.

Andrew Larson
Director of Government Relations & Strategy, Illinois Soybean Association
Andrew Larson is the Director of Government Relations & Strategy for the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA). He manages ISA’s Government Relations team, ISA policy goals, Illinois and Federal governmental affairs, biodiesel programs and organizational strategy. Prior to joining ISA, Larson worked in governmental affairs with Illinois Farm Bureau and with the Illinois Republican State Senate Campaign Committee. He is a 2012 graduate of Illinois State University majoring in political science and history. He and his wife, Blair, have three children.

Dr. Yan Zhang
Director of Research, National Corn to Ethanol Research Center (NCERC)
Dr. Yan Zhang serves as Director of Research at NCERC at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. With a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Arkansas and 20 years of experience across biofuels, pharmaceuticals, and environmental science, she leads projects advancing ethanol production and coproduct development. Since joining NCERC in 2003, she’s worked with USDA, FDA, EPA, and commodity groups, and has been a national speaker on DDGS nutrition and cellulose conversion. She also spent five years as a Senior Analytical Chemist at Mallinckrodt.

Dan Christenson
Senior Director, Public Policy and Government Affairs, PepsiCo
Dan Christenson leads PepsiCo’s federal advocacy strategy and policy engagement in Washington, D.C. Since joining the company in 2016, he has overseen government affairs and corporate outreach to agricultural stakeholders. Dan’s work supports PepsiCo’s supply chain sustainability and corporate reputation efforts. PepsiCo operates in more than 200 countries, generating over $91 billion in 2023 from brands like Lay’s, Gatorade, Quaker, and Pepsi-Cola.

Doug Hanson
Farmer, Iroquois County, Illinois
Doug Hanson farms 1,000 acres of corn and soybeans and manages a 65-head beef herd on 76 acres using rotational grazing. A fourth-generation farmer, Doug is a former ag teacher and now works with ProHarvest Seeds specializing in forage and cover crops. His conservation-minded practices include no-till, strip-till, diverse cover cropping, and NRCS-supported infrastructure. Doug serves on the Illinois Beef Association Board and advocates for integrating livestock into row crop systems to enhance resilience and profitability.
11:30 AM: Hypoxia Zone Impact
Lance Nacio
Commercial Fisherman and Sustainability Advocate, Louisiana
Lance Nacio is a Louisiana-based commercial fisherman and owner of Anna Marie Shrimp. Raised in the bayous of Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes, he became a full-time shrimper in 1997. In response to market and environmental challenges, he adopted sustainable practices including turtle-excluder devices and bycatch utilization. Lance has become a national voice for Gulf seafood sustainability and is helping reshape domestic markets for wild-caught shrimp and underutilized species.

Mark Gebhards
Illinois Soybean Association LEAD Program Senior Advisor
Mark Gebhards recently retired after a 42-year career in Agricultural association work that included the Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Pork Producers Association, and the American Soybean Association. He worked at Illinois Farm Bureau for 28 of those years, retiring as the Chief Strategy Officer and Advisor to the President. Prior to that, he was the Executive Director of the Governmental Affairs and Commodities division, overseeing all of IFB’s legislative and regulatory work in the local, state, and federal arenas. He was also responsible for all work and programs in the commodity area that included livestock production, specialty crop production, agricultural trade work, agricultural research, and ag industry partnerships. He served as a county Farm Bureau manager in Stark and Macoupin counties at the beginning of his IFB career. Mark was the Executive Director of the Illinois Pork Producers Association for just shy of 10 years. He was one of the main authors of the Livestock Management Facilities Act, which governs livestock siting and production in Illinois still today. From 1989 to 1994, Mark worked at the American Soybean Association in St. Louis, MO, and was involved in the creation and passage of the national soybean checkoff program. Mark grew up on a grain and livestock farm west of Springfield, IL. He received his undergraduate degree in business from SIU Carbondale and completed an MBA from the U of I. He and his wife Beth of 42 years have four grown children: Shane (wife Lauren) in SC, Grant(wife Laura), Logan in SC, and Molly. Mark and Beth reside in Springfield, IL.

Annie Hennen
Director, Industry Relations, U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF)
Annie Hennen graduated from North Dakota State University with a bachelor's degree in Food Science and Nutrition. Annie began her career with Cargill, gaining extensive experience in the protein industry. After completing the operations training program at Cargill's beef plant in Schuyler, Nebraska, she advanced through roles in research and development and marketing within the value-added meats business. While at the protein headquarters in Wichita, Kansas, Annie earned her MBA, further enhancing her leadership and management skills through roles in sales operations and product management. For the past decade, Annie has called Colorado home. Her passion for agriculture and the meat industry inspired her work at Midan Marketing, where she helped clients develop impactful communication campaigns and strategic marketing initiatives. In 2024, she joined the U.S. Meat Export Federation as director of industry relations. Annie brings a unique combination of a strong agricultural foundation, hands-on industry experience, and marketing expertise to her role. She is deeply committed to promoting American meat, ensuring its quality and attributes resonate with consumers around the globe.
1:00 PM: Farm Policy Analysis

Jonathan Coppess
Associate Professor; Director of the Gardner Agriculture Policy Program, University of Illinois
Jonathan Coppess is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Gardner Agriculture Policy Program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. With a strong background in federal policymaking, his research, extension, and teaching in agricultural policy and law are deeply informed by historical insights into federal agricultural policy development. His work specifically addresses contemporary issues related to risk management and natural resource conservation. In his role, Jonathan is responsible for conducting research, outreach, and education on various agricultural law and policy matters, including farm support policy, risk management, conservation, and renewable energy. He engages with producers and agribusinesses through classroom instruction, meetings, and presentations, and he communicates key insights through platforms such as farmdoc and farmdoc Daily. Growing up on his family’s corn and soybean farm in Darke County, Ohio, Jonathan maintains a strong connection to agriculture. His family’s farm continues to be operated by his father and brother. He earned his Juris Doctor with honors from the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C., and holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Corey Lacey, Ph.D.
Environmental Policy Manager, Illinois Soybean Association
Corey Lacey is the Environmental Policy Manager at the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA). In his role, Dr. Lacey focuses on advocating for Illinois soybean farmers on conservation and environmental policy issues. He works to monitor, prioritize, and provide consultation on environmental policy developments that may impact Illinois farmers. He holds degrees in Environmental Soil and Water Science (University of Arkansas, BSc.), Agriculture Science (Illinois State University, MSc.) and Soil Fertility and Conservation (Purdue University, PhD). Prior to working at ISA, he managed an agricultural testing laboratory based in Central Illinois. Additionally, he has over a decade of agronomic experience working with Illinois growers.
2:00 PM: Soybean Production Insights

Abigail Peterson, CCA
Director of Agronomy, Illinois Soybean Association
Abigail Peterson is the Director of Agronomy and a Certified Crop Adviser for the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA). She earned a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy from Iowa State University in Ames, IA. Peterson started her agronomy career in soybean production in Hedrick, Iowa, working with agronomists and farmers in seed production throughout southern Iowa. In her former role as Field Manager for the Soil Health Partnership, funded by the National Corn Growers Association, Peterson developed soil health transition plans, guided agronomic decision-making with cover crop applications to conventional systems, enrolled participants in field trials, and coordinated with multiple state organizations. At ISA utilizing experiences within seed production and cover crop systems Peterson strives to find the best soybean solutions for farmers across the state. Peterson guides ISA’s production efforts and aids in the development and implementation of agronomic agricultural research and outreach programs.

Kenneth Hartman Jr.
President, National Corn Growers Association
Kenneth Hartman Jr. is the current president of the National Corn Growers Association. A fifth-generation farmer from Waterloo, Illinois, he grows corn and soybeans with his family while advocating for the industry through NCGA and partner organizations. Hartman serves on multiple national ag committees and was honored as a Prairie Farmer Master Farmer in 2021. He is a former president of the Illinois Corn Growers Association and a longtime advocate for market access, renewable fuels, and precision ag technologies.

Julie Hewitt
Executive Director, Illinois Nutrient Research & Education Council (NREC)
Julie Hewitt has served as Executive Director of Illinois NREC since 2015. With a degree in AgBusiness from Illinois State University, her background includes agronomy, marketing, and public relations. Julie focuses on advancing nutrient efficiency research and communicating actionable results to Illinois farmers and ag professionals. Her leadership has helped bridge research outcomes with practical on-farm applications.
11:30 AM: Water Quality Data Review

Dr. Laura Gentry
Director of Water Quality Science, IL Corn
Dr. Laura Gentry leads IL Corn’s efforts to improve water quality and nutrient management in agriculture. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois and formerly a research professor focusing on sustainable corn systems, reduced tillage, and bioenergy crops. Laura earned her Ph.D. studying the impact of tillage and organic amendments on nutrient cycling and previously served as a faculty member at North Dakota State University.

Darby Danzl
Regional Technical Agronomist, Illinois Soybean Association
Darby Danzl is the Regional Technical Agronomist for the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA). In her role, she contributes to on-farm trials, outreach efforts and NRCS partnership responsibilities. Darby holds a B.S. in Environmental Economics and Policy, a minor in Horticulture, and an M.S. in Crop Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her graduate research at the Crop Physiology Laboratory involved small-plot research with a focus on soil health and regenerative agricultural practices. She is passionate about advancing agricultural sustainability using science-based practices that improve soil health, increase resource efficiency, and boost long-term productivity.
12:30 PM: Tax Incentives & Biodiesel Trends

David Kubik
Biofuels & Trade Policy Manager, Illinois Soybean Association
David Kubik is the Biofuels & Trade Policy Manager for the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA). He earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Springfield and a Bachelor of Science in Politics and Government from Illinois State University. In his former role as Communications Specialist for Ithe llinois House of Representatives, Kubik managed and executed communications and outreach for Illinois House of Representative members. Kubik also served as a campaign manager in hotly contested legislative districts during 2016, 2018, and 2020 election cycles. Since coming to the Illinois Soybean Association in 2021, Kubik spearheaded the B20 initiative, which led to the passage of legislation extending the biodiesel sales tax exemption for blends over 10% and increasing those blends up to 20%. As a result, the Illinois Soybean Association received the 2022 Leadership Award from the Illinois Alliance for Clean Transportation.

Eric Woodie
Trade Analyst, Illinois Soybean Association
Eric Woodie serves as Trade Analyst on behalf of the Illinois Soybean Association. Through the ISA checkoff program, he focuses on generating more demand destination markets and strengthening relationships with current trading partners. He also provides market-specific insights and background to both domestic and international organizations.
Woodie began his agricultural career as a grain trader & exporter. His background in international trade, marketing and global logistics allows him to make continued expansion of Illinois soy exports possible. Throughout his career, he’s worked closely with every link in the supply chain—from farmer leaders and processors to exporters and end users—assisting each make smart, timely decisions in a constantly shifting global landscape.
