Advanced Soil Health Training for Crop Advisors

The Advanced Soil Health Training (ASHT) will provide six workshops over 16 months to 20-25 agriculture professionals, with a special focus on retailers in Central Illinois seeking to increase their knowledge on conservation cropping systems and soil health. The six workshops will begin in August 2022 and end by January 2024; this proposal is seeking funding for the four workshops that will take place between September 2022 and August 2023.

Positive impacts for farmers

An understanding of the need for cover crops and soil health systems from a soil health, environmental and economic standpoint.
Basic agronomic advice for farmers in adopting conservation practices and advanced knowledge in their particular field.
The ability to describe and sell the need for conservation practices to growers and industry.
An inventory of resources to refer farmers to on specific topics and a developed network of professionals knowledgeable on conservation cropping systems and soil health.

The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) checkoff and membership programs represent more than 43,000 soybean farmers in Illinois. The checkoff funds market development, soybean production and government relations efforts, while the membership program, Illinois Soybean Growers (ISG) and the Illinois Soybean Growers PAC actively advocates for positive and impactful legislation for farmers at local, state and national levels. ISA upholds the interests of Illinois soybean farmers through promotion, advocacy, research and education with the vision of becoming a trusted partner of Illinois soybean farmers to ensure their profitability now and for future generations.
