Ellen and her husband, Justin, another 20 Under 40 recipient, farm around Mount Carroll, IL where they raise soybeans, corn alfalfa, cover crops, and cattle. Being named an Illinois 20 Under 40 Farmer means a lot to Ellen. She feels that as a female farmer, she has to work even harder, and she is honored to be recognized as a female doing amazing things in the industry. Looking ahead to the 2024 growing season, Ellen feels excited for a fresh, clean slate. Each growing season teaches her new lessons, and she uses the knowledge she gains every year to make decisions for the future of her farm. Ellen and her husband have been working to expand and update their farm, creating new and efficient ways to sustain their farm's profitability for years to come. Ellen feels that when she stepped into the farming world, people doubted her ability to last in such a demanding industry. In the past year people have acknowledged all the hard work she has put into becoming successful. Ellen's favorite part of farming is the changing seasons. She never knows what a new growing season is going to bring, and that is what keeps her job so exciting.
