2025 20 Under 40 Farmer
About
Brendan Surprenant of Manteno, Illinois, farms corn and soybeans while also helping with his family’s cow-calf operation. As an advocate for agriculture, Brendan serves on the Kankakee County Farm Bureau board and the Kankakee County Corn Growers Association, where he supports scholarships for local students. He has also represented Illinois farmers in Washington, D.C. On the farm Brendan focuses on conservation practices such as cover crops and no-till, improving soil health, reducing erosion, and retaining water during dry summers. Inspired by his father’s forward-thinking approach, Brendan embraces the idea that it’s okay to be different and encourages others to think outside the box. He hopes to inspire the next generation to try new practices, stay active in their communities, and build strong relationships with neighbors. His motto is simple but impactful: dream big, work hard, and be a good person.
