JOIN ISA IN CELEBRATING NEW NBB 2ND VICE CHAIRMAN ROB SHAFFER
This week, the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) hosted their Virtual November Membership Meeting, covering a variety of topics and voting to fill eight board member spots for two-year terms. Among those elected was Illinois farmer and American Soybean Association (ASA) farmer representative Rob Shaffer, who was appointed 2nd Vice Chairman.
ISA RELAUNCHES FIELD & BEAN MAGAZINE
This month, the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) relaunched Illinois Field & Bean magazine. The November issue can be found here and includes information for farmers on market development, government relations, and checkoff programs. In one article, Finding Your Voice For Soy, ISA Government Relations Committee Chair Ron Kindred discusses how it is more important than ever for soybean farmer voices to be heard. NATIONAL BIODIESEL BOARD HILL VISITS
This week, the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) held virtual Hill visits as part of their November Membership meeting. Over the course of the meetings, the group discussed the extension of the biodiesel tax credit, which they all supported. The visits offered opportunity for NBB to provide farmer perspective to members of Illinois’ Congressional delegation, and emphasize the importance of the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to release their 2021 proposal for the Renewable Fuel Standard on time. JOIN WISHH IN CELEBRATING WORLD FISHERIES DAY
In celebration of World Fisheries Day (November 21), the American Soybean Association's World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) Program is celebrating the leaders of the new Cambodian Aquaculturist Association (CAA) for their innovative efforts to grow Cambodia’s aquaculture production. ISA DIRECTOR’S FALL FIELDWORK UPDATES
In his latest piece, 2020 Ground Work: Fall Fieldwork in Illinois, ISA Director and Illinois Farmer Elliott Uphoff discusses post-harvest fall fieldwork and his experimentation with a cover crop this year. Since the end of harvest, Uphoff has been focused on preparing his land for next season through tilling flat fields, applying nitrogen fertilizer, and planting cover crops for the first time. Uphoff states, “The end of harvest does not mean the end of time spent in the fields this year. APPLY NOW! USDA’S CORONAVIRUS FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM 2
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) wants to remind farmers and ranchers that the deadline to apply for the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program 2 (CFAP 2) is Friday, Dec. 11. The program provides direct relief to producers who continue to face market disruptions and associated costs from COVID-19. CFAP 2 will provide up to $14 billion to eligible producers. NON-GMO SOYBEAN CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY
Mercaris and Benson Hill have teamed up to connect growers with a competitive acreage contract premium program. Growers must be located within 250 miles of Gibson City, have at least 150 acres available to be contracted for non-GMO soybeans in 2021, and have on-farm storage capacity.
