March 12, 2013

BLOOMINGTON, ILL. -- March 12, 2013 – The Illinois Soybean Board (ISB) is looking for farmers interested in filling two of Illinois' four director positions with the United Soybean Board (USB).  ISB manages and invests Illinois soybean checkoff funds in research, promotion and education programs that enhance soybean production and use and support national and international market development.  Doug Winter, soybean farmer from Mill Shoals, Ill., is eligible for another term.  Sharon Covert, soybean farmer from Tiskilwa, Ill., is not eligible for another term.  Both positions expire in December 2013.

Any soybean farmer who is affected by the soybean checkoff is eligible to serve.  To be considered for the national leadership position, farmers must complete the required application and "Agreement to Serve" statement and return them to the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) office by Monday, April 15, 2013.

The ISB Board of Directors will submit to the U.S. Department of Agriculture a "first preferred choice nominee" and "second preferred choice alternate" for both open positions.  The Secretary of Agriculture will make final appointments, and chosen individuals will begin serving three-year terms in December 2013.  Each individual appointed is eligible to serve a total of three terms.
