Illinois consistently produces a large soybean supply that can effectively be exported to customers around the U.S. and the world. Year after year, Illinois is a top soybean-producing state within the U.S. And about 60% of the crop is exported every year.
In 2018, Illinois produced an estimated 18.7 million metric tons or 688 million bushels of soybeans. The state has roughly 975 grain-handling operations, and a processing capacity of more than 21,300 metric tons or 23,500 short tons per day.
Illinois producers raise both conventional and non-GM crops, depending on the market and what best fits their operation.
