Better business with biodiesel

Biodiesel Advantages for Retailers

From economic incentives to better engine performance and cleaner air, today’s biodiesel offers a low-carbon liquid fuel option with bottom-line benefits to give fuel retailers the edge they need. If you are not yet using a biodiesel blend or are considering increasing the biodiesel blend you already use, this information will help you start doing better business with biodiesel.

Better for your Bottom Line

In recent history offering biodiesel blends, especially higher blends like B20, has helped reduce the cost of diesel fuel, thanks in part to state and federal policies meant to encourage the use of alternative fuels.

Illinois Tax Incentives

Blends of B11 and higher are exempt from Illinois sales tax. This exemption extends through 2023.

Biodiesel Blender Credit fuel pump

First implemented in 2005, Congress voted to provide a $1 credit per gallon of biodiesel blended to the blender of the fuel. When available, this tax credit can lead to even more savings when you blend your biodiesel on-site.

Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS)

The RFS is a federal program that requires transportation fuel sold in the United States to contain a minimum volume of renewable fuels. The RFS provides additional incentives for blending renewable fuels by attaching Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) to each gallon of renewable fuel. RINs can be sold or assigned to a broker to sell and this value can reduce the cost of biodiesel blends. Learn more about RIN management here.

Better for your customers

With greater power, performance and efficiency, today’s biodiesel offers many advantages that your customers will appreciate.

Due to its superior lubricity, biodiesel reduces engine wear and contains higher cetane for quicker starts and reduced black and white smoke.

Biodiesel is compatible with virtually any diesel engine, without the need for modification, and is compatible with standard fueling equipment. Think of it as a “drop-in” fuel.

Biodiesel is a high-performance fuel that can be used year-round in all kinds of weather, including cold winters.

Better for the environment

More and more consumers are choosing to align with companies and products that display positive social values. Using biodiesel is a no-cost way to help show your dedication to a healthy environment with cleaner burning properties and fewer emissions—helping us all breathe a little easier.

  • Biodiesel can reduce harmful emissions from diesel vehicles and equipment, reducing risk of exacerbating asthma and other respiratory diseases.
  • Compared with regular diesel fuel, biodiesel generates (on average) 78.5 percent fewer CO2 emissions from production and use.
