New Website Brings Together Illinois Soybean Production Resources

ISA Introduces to Boost Yields, Profitability

PEORIA, ILL -- March 10, 2014 -- The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) recently unveiled, a checkoff-funded resource to help Illinois soybean farmers increase yields.  Combining a website with discussion forums, the site will focus on boosting Illinois soybean yields and profitability through collaboration and the latest management practices.

"The site gets practical information on increasing yields into the hands of growers," says Don Guinnip, a soybean farmer from Marshall, Ill., and ISA Production Committee chairman.  "It connects farmers like me with industry experts, certified crop advisers, university researchers and other farmers so we can exchange production tips and advice."

ISA directors showcased to more than 300 attendees at the ISA Soybean Summit held in Peoria, Ill., March 7.

"Soybeans and corn have long been the bread and butter of Midwestern agriculture, but it seems soybeans still finish second," says Bill Raben, soybean farmer from Ridgway, Ill., and ISA chairman.  "It’s time for growers to realize soybeans also are a high-value crop.  Illinois has just reclaimed the title of top soybean-producing state, so we're keeping that momentum going."

Raben says the new resource is a "one-stop shop."  The site includes recent production research, articles and recommendations about managing soybeans.  With its discussion forum, the website serves as a gathering place for the Illinois soybean industry to share stories, ask questions and connect with others.  The website also includes real-time agricultural information, technical resources, case studies, videos, blogging, tools and more.

"This is where conversations and research taking place can live indefinitely.  We're in pursuit of higher yields together, and this site is all about helping us get there," says Guinnip.  "I encourage everyone involved in Illinois soybean production to join the online community."
