BLOOMINGTON, IL – The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) is now recruiting farmers for the Soy Ambassadors Leadership Program. Created for those who want to take an active role in the soybean industry, the program is targeted toward soybean farmers interested in sharpening their leadership skills. By becoming a Soy Ambassador, participants gain expertise, exposure and a global perspective while having the opportunity to travel abroad and learn new skills at no cost to them.
Preparing Future Leaders
Sponsored by the ISA and funded by the Illinois soybean checkoff, the two-year Soy Ambassadors Leadership Program trains a select group of soybean farmers to develop their leadership qualities.
“We anticipate that those who become Soy Ambassadors will channel their new skills in future leadership roles within the soy industry,” Ron Moore, chairman of the ISA Board of Directors, said. “The two-year program helps candidates become leaders by providing a variety of opportunities to learn about the industry’s challenges. There’s no doubt ISA’s Soy Ambassadors will help to shape the future of soybeans in this country.”
No Out-of-Pocket Expenses
“We’re looking for innovative, confident, proactive soybean farmers who reside in Illinois and have an interest in playing a leadership role in the soybean industry,” Moore added. “The farmers who are selected will relate well with others and enjoy learning about all aspects of the industry. Soy Ambassadors have an opportunity for no-holds-barred training, with no out-of-pocket expenses.”
The ISA covers all expenses related to the program because it considers the Soy Ambassadors Leadership Program an investment in the future of the organization and soybean industry. As a result, Soy Ambassadors have the opportunity to provide valuable input on association and checkoff activities, while promoting soybeans and attending important events in the soybean industry.

Applications must be submitted by August 1, 2010 and can be completed online at www.ilsoy.org/soyambassador. The program is limited to 10 Illinois soybean farmers at least 21 years old. Participants must be willing to commit to the program for two years and travel internationally. A valid passport is required. The statewide organization for Illinois soybean farmers, the ISA uses checkoff funds to support research, promotions and educational programs designed to increase demand for Illinois soybeans.
